Know where you are and where the fish are...
Get a top notch gps and fish finder
The waters around my favorite fishing spots just off West Palm Beach lately have been dead for fishing purposes, no tackle or fresh bait has been able to pull anything in for me. What I don't understand is that I mapped out the best spots in the past with my gps fish finder and when I get out there it shows stuff swimming around but I just can't get anything to bite.
Some of my buddies have been having the same problems especially when the water is really calm. Having a fish finder on board the boat usually helps with my salt water fishing but sometimes you just get skunked I guess. Hopefully this winter when the water starts to swirl up a bit it will start bring some of the fish up to the surface and get them biting again. I'm going to hang on to the waypoints I programmed into my gps system and hope that they start working this winter. The problem with that is that I end up loading up on dramamine to calm my nausea, I swear I don't ever think I'll get used to the rolling waves and get over my sea sickness.
It's so worth it at the end of the day though when you find some really great fish and have a really good take. I end up eating the fish the next day, since by the time I get in and get the fish cleaned it doesn't seem as appetizing at that moment as it would be the next day.
