Ever been on a road trip helplessly lost? Or been stuck out in the middle of the ocean wondering which direction you need to head to get back to the inlet? Or been sitting by the front door wondering when an important package is going to be delivered? If any of those things sound like something you have been through there is a very simple way to make your life a lot easier. GPS systems have really improved many aspects of life today, sometimes even in areas we may not realize. If you are unfamiliar with the term GPS, it stands for global positioning system. A tiny locator chip communicates with dozens of satellites in orbit to tell you exactly where on earth you are. Combine that with street mapping software, or a layout of inlets, reefs and islands and you can pretty much do anything.

There are many brands out there that make portable gps systems but the brand I have been most impressed with is Garmin. They make a wide variety of models at different price levels so that almost anyone can find exactly what they need at a price they can afford. My Garmen gps has served me very well on business trips and family vacations. Of course some really like to discount shop and find the cheapest gps available, but why risk it? Garmin is a well-known, trusted brand that consistently makes quality products. I personally would rather invest the money to know that I am well taken care of.

I understand many feel they don't need a gps system for their car or boat but think about it, if you are ever broken down on a deserted stretch of highway, police can find you more easily if you can give them your exact position. Or if you are an avid hiker or camper, carrying a portable garmen gps with you could be a lifesaver if you get disoriented and lost. The gps can help you find your way back before you run out of food and water. The bottom line is that almost everyone could benefit by owning a gps.
